Volleyball Drops Two Matches on Saturday

NEW HAVEN, CT - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday to URI and Yale at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, CT. In the first match Maine was defeated by URI 3-0 (21-30, 20-30, 30-32). In the second match, Maine was defeated by hosts Yale by a score of 3-0 (16-30, 22-30, 21-30) as well. Maine fell to 1-9 on the season. In the first match, junior Lindsay Allman led the Black Bears with a match high 9 kills, while sophomore Amanda Armstong added 8. Freshman Paige Tortorello had 16 assists and junior Ashlee Wright had 13 digs for the Black Bears. URI was led in kills by Kayla Newberg, who tied Maine's Allman with 9. Kaira Kachadurian led URI with 13 digs. She also totaled a match-high 26 assists for the Rams. In the second match, Allman again led Black Bears with 8 kills, while Armstong added 6. Jessica Wolfenden led the Black Bears with 13 assists. Allman and Wright each had a team-high 6 digs. Allman was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Yale was led by Alexis Crusey and Kristen Wilk, as both tallied a match-best 11 kills. Crusey also led the team in digs with 10. Ally Mendenhall had a match-high 38 assists for the Bulldogs. The Black Bears' next matches will be on the road for a tournament at URI September 14-15. Maine's next home game will be an exhibition against the University of New Brunswick on September 22.
