BOSTON -- The America East Conference announced on Friday, May 18, the All-Academic teams for tennis, golf and outdoor track and field. The University of Maine was represented on the All-Academic outdoor track and field team by Clarissa Michalak, Erin Hatch and Eric Libby.

Clarissa Michalak is a senior from Cumberland, Maine. She won the America East Championship in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.22 meters. She graduated last weekend with a degree in nursing. Eric Libby is a senior from Hampden, Maine. He finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.82. He recently recieved his degree from Maine in economics and business administration. Erin Hatch, a senior from Saco, Maine, finished second in the high jump at 1.67 meters. She graduated last weekend with a degree in psychology.

Each All-Academic Team has been selected based on the student-athlete's academic and athletic accomplishments. Academic achievement for consideration requires student-athletes to have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 entering the season. Athletic accomplishment standards vary between team sports and individual sports. For track & field, student-athletes are required to be a top-three finisher at the conference championship meet. Team size for individual sports is determined by the number of all-conference honorees who possess the minimum academic requirement. Freshman are not eligable for the All-Academic Team.

The Maine track and field team will complete the season at the NCAA Regionals on May 26-27 at the University of Florida. As America East Champions, Clarissa Michalak and Jeff Ramos have qualified to compete in the event. For more information on University of Maine athletics, visit www.GoBlackBears.com or call 581-BEAR.
