Men's and Women's Track At Wildcat Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, April 9, in the University of New Hampshire. The Black Bears had several strong showings in the meet, including first place finishes by both the men's and women's 4x800 meter relay teams.

For the women, the Black Bears won the 4x800 meter relay in 9:38.75 and Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) took first place in the triple jump at 11.24 meters. Silvia Scaldaferri (Vancouver, British Columbia) was second in the 100 meters in a time of 13.21 and Chelsea Thibeault (Oakland, Maine) was fourth in the event. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was seventh in the 400 meters. The Black Bears took second and third in the 800 meters as Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine ) and Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) finished in 2:19.14 and 2:21.68, respectively. In the 5000 meters, Miranda Szewc (Bangor, Maine) was sixth in 19:16.57. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.84 and Courtney Francis (Waltham, Maine) was seventh. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Jessica Hudec (Chicago, Ill.) was fourth and Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.) was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles. Hatch added a fourth place finish in the high jump at 1.59, while Scaldaferri added a third place finish in the long jump. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was second in the discus with a throw of 38.69 meters and was fourth in the shot put at 11.83 meters. Kristina Gonzalez (Newport, Maine) was third in the javelin throw and Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) was fifth in the hammer throw.

 

 

On the men's side of the meet, the Black Bears lone first place finish was in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:04.37. In the 100 meters, Ivi Nwosu (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Sydney Harrison (Phippsburg, Maine) were fifth and sixth respectively, while Nwosu was second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.64. Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine) was third in the 1500 with a time of 3:57.33 and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was fourth in 4:00.95. In the 800 meters, Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) was seventh in 1:57.48 and in the 5000 meters Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was third. Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was seventh in the 110 meter hurdles and Patrick Guerrette (Fairfield, Maine) was fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Warren was fourth in the high jump clearing 1.87 meters. Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) was seventh in the long jump and was fourth in the javelin throw. Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was second in the triple jump at 13.18 meters. Michael Leconte (South Portland, Maine) was sixth in the shot put at 14.25 meters.

The Black Bears will travel to Durham, N.H. for the Wildcat Invitational II next weekend, while some members will travel to the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee on April 13-16. For more information on University of Maine athletics, please visit www.GoBlackBears.com.
