Maine Track Splits Meet With New Hampshire

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track and field teams hosted New Hampshire in their only home meet of the season on Saturday on the Beckett Family Track at Alfond Stadium. The women defeated the Wildcats 102-97, while the men were defeated 103-93. Maine won six individual men's events and eight individual women's events, plus all four relays. For the women, Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) won the 100 meters in 12.43. In the 200 meters, Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) was second in 26.81. Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.54. In the 800 meters, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) led the field in 2:17.40, while Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) was second in 2:20.04. Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was second in the 1500 meters in 4:43.44 and was third in the 5000 meters in 18:24.94. In the 100 meter hurdles, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was second in 15.43. Courtney Francis (Waltham, Mass.) was second in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.45. The Black Bears won both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. In the women's field events, Erin Hatch won the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters. Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was second in the pole vault at 9-06. Maine took the top two spots in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was firs tin 5.29 meters and Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) was second in 5.12 meters. In the triple jump, Tess Perry (Farmington, Maine) was first with a jump of 11.05 meters, while Tanya Simard was second in 10.53 meters. Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) won the hammer in 49.32 meters, while Kayla Rubin (Sanford, Maine) was first in the javelin with a throw of 34.93 meters. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was second in the discus at 36.89 meters and Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) was second in the shot put with a throw of 11.91 meters.
On the men's side of the meet, Andrew King (Hanau, Germany) was second in the 100 meters in 11.61 and also second in the 200 meters in 23.30. In the 800 meters, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) paced the field with a time of 1:57.72, while Daniel Voner (Dresden, Maine) was second in 2:00.32. Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) won the 1500 meters in 4:02.44. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) led the entire race and cruised to a win in 15:20.29. Charles Therriault (Clinton, Mass.) was second in 15:59.60 as Maine had the top four finishers in the event. In the 110 meter hurdles, Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was first in 15.33 and Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was second in 15.79. Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) took second place in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.46 and Jonathan McGonagle (Portland, Maine) was second in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The Black bears won both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. In the men's field events, Christopher Warren won the high jump by clearing 1.91 meters. In the pole vault, Richard Cannon (Sanford, Maine) was second at 11-06 meters. Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) won the long jump with a distance of 6.74 meters. Herbert Ryan (Ellsworth, Maine) was second in the triple jump at 11.39 meters. Maine will travel to New Hampshire next weekend for the Wildcat Invitational on April 7.
