Maine Track Opens Outdoor Season At Navy

Annapolis, Md. - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor season with a meet hosted by the Naval Academy on Saturday afternoon. In the four-team men's meet, the Black Bears score 124 points to finish second, while the women scored 79 points to take third in the five-team meet.

For the women, Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) won the only event for the Black Bears, going 11.08 meters in the triple jump. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was second in the 400 meters in 59.26. In the 800 meters, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was second with a time of 2:13.61. Silvia Scaldaferri (Vancouver, British Columbia) was fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.21, while Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) was third in the 1500 meters in 4:47.10. Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) was third in 15.17 in the 100 meter hurdles and was also second in the javelin throw at 34.41 meters. Jessica Hudec (Chicago, Ill.) was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:43. 69. The 4x100 relay team finished second in 50.32. In the field events, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was third in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters and Scaldaferri was fourth in the long jump at 5.24 meters. Micralyn Wiechmann (Buxton, Maine) was third in the discus with a throw of 37.26 meters and Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) was fourth in the hammer throw at 40.63 meters.

 

 

On the men's side of the meet, Anthony Morgan (South Berwick, Maine) was third in the hammer throw at 46.25 meters and third in the discus at 38.73 meters. Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was third in the long jump at 6.41 meters. Kenneth Savary (Shelton, Conn.) was second in the triple jump, going 13.07 meters. Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was third at 1.84 meters in the high jump. Ivi Nwosu (Bridgewater, Mass.) was third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.32 and was also third in the 100 meters at 11.14. Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.85.

Final team standings for the men were: Navy 233, Maine 124, Maryland 84, American 52. For the women's meet, the final standings were: Navy 155, Maryland 125, Maine 79, Colgate 31, American 19.
