Men's and Women's Track at New Englands

Boston, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's track teams both competed at the New England Indoor Championships hosted by Boston University over the weekend. The men's team scored 18 points to finish thirteen overall, while the women's team posted 16 points to finish fourteenth overall.

For the women, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was the top individual finisher for Maine, with a fourth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.15. Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) finished sixth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.37. In the shot put, Micralyn Weichman (Buxton, Maine) was sixth overall with a throw of 12.50 meters. In the 400 meters, freshman Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was sixth with a time of 57.75. Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) took seventh place in the long jump at 5.32 meters and ninth place in the triple jump with a 11.13 meter distance. Silvia Scaldaferri (Vancouver, British Columbia) was ninth in the long jump at 5.15 meters.

On the men's side of the meet, Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine) was the highest individual finisher for the Black Bears, taking fifth place in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:23.21. He was followed in sixth place by Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine) in 8:27.10. The Black Bear 4x800 relay was second overall with a time of 7:38.69 to score eight points. In the pole vault, Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) was sixth overall, clearing 4.42 meters. Other top finishes for Maine included Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) who was ninth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.79, Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) ninth in the triple jump at 12.88 meters, and Anthony Morgan (South Berwick, Maine) finishing ninth in the weight throw at 16.52 meters.
