Black Bears Track Splits Meet

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine men's track team picked up a win over Central Connecticut State 107-65, while the women's team was defeated by one point by New Hampshire, 132 to 131, but defeated Central Connecticut State (86 points). Silvia Scaldaferri won two events for the women's team and Troy Irvine won two field events for the men.

In the women's meet, Silvia Scaldaferri (West Vancouver, British Columbia) took first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.19. In the 500 meters, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) finished first with a time of 1:19.08, while Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) set a meet and Fieldhouse record in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:55.28. Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) was first in the 60 yard hurdles with a time of 8.37. The Black Bears won the 4x440 relay, but finished third in the 4x880 relay. Maine was strong in the field events, beginning with a win in the high jump by Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine). Scaldaferri added a win in the long jump, going 5.44 meters and Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) won the triple jump with 11.66 meters. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was first in the shot put with a throw of 11.70 meters.

For the men, Sydney Harrison (Phippsburg,Maine) won the 60 yard dash with a time of 6.63, while in the mile Michael Lansing (Lovell, Maine) took first place in 4:28.54. In the 1000 meters, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) finished first in 2:29.39, followed by Lansing. Maine continued to run strong inthe distance events, picking up a win in the 3000 meters by Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine). In the 60 yard hurdles, Nathan Holmes (Westbrook, Maine) was first in 7.98. The Black Bears won the 4x880 relay and were second in the 4x440 relay. Maine swept the field events, led by Troy Irvine with wins in the pole vault and long jump. Irvine cleared 4.57 meters in the pole vault, setting a meet record. Christopher Warren (Wobrun, Mass.) was first in the high jump and Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) went the farthest in the triple jump. In the weight throw, Anthony Morgan (South Portland, Maine) set a meet record at 16.43 meters and Michael Leconte (South Portland, Maine) won the shot put with a throw of 14.88 meters.
