ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track teams hosted a meet in the Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The men defeated Central Connecticut State 98-68, while the women scored 164 points to defeat New Hampshire with 107 points and Central Connecticut with 63 points. For the men, Montel Owens (Wilmington, Del.) was second in the 60 yard dash with a time of 6.66. In the 400 meters, Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) was second in 52.17. Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) took first place in the mile with a time of 4:32.53. in the 500 meters, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) finished first in 1:05.84 and Daniel Voner (Hallowell, Maine) was second in 1:07.37. Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) was first in 1:57.82 in the 800 meters, while David Englehutt (Dartmouth, N.S.) was first in the 3000 in 9:09.11. In the 1000 meters, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was first in 2:30.17 and David Manz (Underhill, Vt.) was second in 2:35.97. Maine also took the top two spots in the 60 yard hurdles as Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was first in 7.93 and Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was second in 8.03. Warren also added a first place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters. In the pole vault, Ben Toothaker (Hampden, Maine) was first by clearing 2.13 meters. Carson Hartman (Fort Kent, Maine) was first in the triple jump going 13.16 meters and Dzigbodi Ababio (Willingboro, N.J.) was first in the shot put with a throw of 14.72 meters. In the long jump, Maine took the top three spots, led by Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) in 6.64 meters. The Black Bears added a first place finish in the 4x440 relay as well.
In the women's meet., Maine was led by Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) who took first in the mile in 5:11.23 and was also first in the 800 meters in 2:17.54. In the 60 yard dash, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was first in 7.41 and Samantha Homer (Charlton, Mass.) was second in 7.67. Vicki Tolton (Smithers, B.C.) was first in the 200 meters in 25.89 and Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was first in the 400 meters with a time of 59.76. In the 500 meters, Maine was led by Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.) in first with a time of 1:17.57 and Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) second in 1:19.52. Maine took the top three spots in the 60 yard hurdles, led by Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) in 8.51. In the 1000 meters, Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) was second in 3:10.09 and in the 3000 meters, Krista Ricupero (Southwick, Mass.) was second in 11:12.08. The Black Bears took first in the 4x440 relay as well. In the field events, Heather Zadaduk (Smithers, B.C.) set a Fieldhouse record in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters. The high jump was won by Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) in 1.59 and Amanda Virgets was second in 1.54. In the long jump, Maine was led by Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) in first in 5.51 meters and Rachel McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) was second in 5.12. McCusker added a first place finish in the triple jump at 11.04 meters. In the shot put, Maine took the top four spots, led by Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) with a throw of 12.28. In the weight throw, Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) was first in 14.05 meters and Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was second in 13.88 meters. Also, on Friday a small group traveled to Boston for the Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) finished 24th overall with a time of 14:48.20 and Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) finished in 15:44.0. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 21st in the mile in 4:18.02, while Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was 19th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.49. In addition, Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine) ran the 5000 meters in 14:37.93 and Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) ran the 3000 meters in 8:47.21 as unattached runners. Next up for the Black Bears, both teams will host Holy Cross on February 4 at the University of Maine Fieldhouse.
