Consolante, Canuel Earn All Northeast Regional Honors
Dec. 16, 2005 ORONO, Maine. -- University of Maine women's soccer stars Linda Consolante (Beaconsfield, Quebec) and Marie-Andree Canuel (St.-Jean-Chrysostome, Quebec) recently earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America All Northeast Regional honors. Consolante was named to the Second Team, while Canuel garnered Third Team honors. Consolante started all 19 games for the Black Bears this season and scored three goals for six points. She was named the 2005 America East Defender of the Year and earned a spot on the America East First Team. It was the second America East Defender of the Year honor for Consolante who also earned the honor in 2002. Consolante is the first player in Maine women's soccer history to earn America East All-Conference honors all four years. She is a three-time America East First Team selection and was named to the America East Second Team in 2003 after missing part of the season while playing for the Canadian World Cup team. She earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors recently. In 2003, she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Northeast Regional Team. Consolante is a UMaine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and has also been named to the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She is a senior majoring in kinesiology and physical education. Canuel started all 19 games for the Black Bears and led the team in scoring with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. She was named the 2004 America East Rookie of the Year and was named America East Midfielder of the Year. Canuel also earned a spot on the America East First Team. She earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team honors recently. She ranks tied for second on Maine's all-time goals list with 20 career goals. In 2004, she was named a Second Team Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz magazine. Canuel has been named a UMaine Academic Rising Star and also named to the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She is a sophomore engineering physics major. The Black Bears finished the season 11-6-2 and earned a spot in the America East Championship game for the third year in a row. Maine fell in the championship game 2-1 to Boston University in double overtime.
