Harper, Phillips Earn Soccer Buzz Honors

ORONO, Maine- University of Maine women's soccer standouts Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario) and Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario) were each named to the Soccer Buzz Northeast Region Second Team announced recently.

Harper led Maine and the America East Conference in scoring in 2006 with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. Last week she was named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division I Women's Northeast Regional Second Team. Harper was named to the 2006 America East First Team and the 2006 America East All-Academic Team. She also received ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Phillips was 14-4-2 on the season with a 0.38 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. She finished the season second in the nation in goals against average and third in save percentage. Phillips set records in 2006 for wins in a season (14), shutouts in a season (12), goals against average and save percentage.

Harper and Phillips led Maine to a record of 14-4-2 on the season and a fourth straight berth in the America East Title game. The Black Bears set records in 2006 for wins in a season, fewest goals allowed in a season and tied the record for shutouts in a season.
