Kelly, Stevens Named to 2004 Academic All-District I First Team

ORONO, Maine--University of Maine women's soccer seniors Allison Kelly (Cambridge, Ontario) and Emily Stevens (Hamilton, Ontario) were both named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District I Women's Soccer First Team announced on Thursday, November 4. The duo will now be placed on the national ballot.

The pair have led Maine to a 12-5-1 record and a share of the America East regular season title. Kelly and Stevens have been keys to Maine's defense this season which has recorded 11 shutouts on the year. The Black Bears rank eighth in the nation in goals against average and tied for ninth in shutout percentage. The team is on pace to set school record for most shutouts and fewest goals allowed in a season.

Kelly, named to the 2003 CoSIDA Academic All-District I second team, has been a cornerstone of the Maine defense the past four years. She has served as co-captain of the Black Bears the past two season. Kelly was named to the America East First Team as a junior, with the 2004 honors having yet to be released. She has seen action in 68 career games for the Black Bears and has 11 career assists. Kelly is a two-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and has been named to the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She is a kinesiology and physical education major.

Stevens has also been a key part of the Maine defense after playing forward for part of her career. She has started all 18 games for the Black Bears this season. For her career, she has played in 66 games, having scored five goals and two assists for 12 points. Last season, she was named to the America East All-Tournament Team. Stevens, a two-sport athlete at Maine, is co-captain of the women's ice hockey team. She has been named a three-time UMaine Scholar Athlete Award winner and has been named to the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Stevens is a graduate student in education. She has a bachelor's degree in zoology with a minor in exercise science.

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, November 5 when play in the America East semifinals. The Black Bears, who are the second seed in the tournament, will face New Hampshire at 1:30 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y. at Binghamton University. The winner will advance to the America East Championship game which will be played on Sunday, November 7 at noon.
