Canuel, Consolante and Phillips Earn Yearly America East Honors

ORONO, Maine. -- Marie-Andree Canuel (St.-Jean-Chrysostome, Quebec), Linda Consolante (Beaconsfield, Quebec) and Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario) highlighted the honorees at the America East women's soccer annual awards banquet on Thursday night in Boston, Mass. Canuel was named Midfielder of the Year, Consolante Defender of the Year and Phillips Goalkeeper of the Year. Maine had a total of eight players honored.

Canuel, Consolante and Phillips were all named to the America East First Team in addition to Marie-Michele Bouchard (Beauport, Quebec). Forwards Erin Corey (Winslow, Maine) and Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine) were each named to the America East Second Team. Natalie Berry (Saco, Maine) was named an Honorable Mention, while Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario) was named to the America East All-Rookie Team.

Canuel, the 2004 America East Rookie of the Year and First Team selection, led Maine in scoring with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. She finished tied for fourth in America East, averaging 0.53 goals per game. As a sophomore, she ranks tied for second on Maine's all-time goals scored list with 20.

Consolante is a two-time America East Defender of the Year and has earned America East First Team honors three times. In 2003, she was named to the America East Second Team after missing half of the season while playing for the Canadian World Cup Team. Consolante has led a Maine defense which has allowed just 10 goals in 17 games this season and ranks 16th in the nation in goals against average. In addition, Consolante has three goals on the season.

Phillips has seen action in eight game for Maine and is 6-1-1 with a 0.13 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. She has six shutouts on the season. Phillips has allowed just one goal in 710:57 this season. She leads America East in shutout per game (.75) and in goals against average.

Bouchard has started all 17 games for the Black Bears and has three assists on the season.

Corey is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She scored Maine's lone goal in its 1-1 tie against Boston University earlier this season and notched the game-winner in Maine's 4-1 victory over Holy Cross. Corey ranks fifth in America East, averaging 1.25 points per game.

Hathorn was named to the America East Second Team for the second year in a row. Hathorn has seven goals and two assists for 16 points. She has been named America East Player of the Week twice this season. Hathorn has a team-high three game-winning goals on the season. She is Maine's all-time leading scorer with 34 goals and 14 assists for 82 career points.

Berry was named an America East Honorable Mention. She has one goal and four assists for six points on the season. Her lone goal of the season was the game-winner in Maine's victory over Hartford. Berry's four assists are second on the team.

Christine LaBelle was named to the All-Rookie Squad. She saw action in 16 games for Maine and recorded an assist in Maine's 6-1 win over Albany.

Boston University's Meghann Cook was named the America East Striker of the Year, while her coach, Nancy Feldman, was named America East Coach of the Year. New Hampshire's Sara Hourihan was named America East Rookie of the Year.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, October 30 when they face the winner of Binghamton vs. UMBC in the America East semifinals at Boston University's Nickerson Field at 2:30 p.m. -U-M-
