Women's Soccer Ties St. John's 0-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The University of Maine women's soccer team concluded play in the Buffalo Fall Soccer Tournament on Sunday with a 0-0 tie against Big East-foe St. John's. The Black Bears concluded play in the tournament with a 1-0-1 record, including a 3-0 victory over host-school and MAC-opponent Buffalo on Friday night. Maine ran its record to 1-3-2 on the season. Leading the way for the Black Bears was goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips, who continued her strong play on Sunday. She made nine saves in the contest, including five in the second period. She also made a save in each of the two overtimes. It was Phillips second shutout in as many games. She has allowed just one goal in her last three games and a total of just five in six games this season. In fact, she has allowed a goal or less in 25 of her last six 26 contests dating back to last season. St. John's was aggressive in the offensive end in the second period as the Red Storm got off 12 shots. Maine had three in the period, as St. John's goalkeeper Jaime Beran made two saves. Laura Harper led Maine with two shots, while Kelsey Wilson had one shot.
Maine returns to action this Friday when the Black Bears take part in their 2007 home opener. Maine plays host to Holy Cross at 3 p.m., at Alumni Field.
