Women's Ice Hockey Schedule Announced

July 12, 2006

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will face the toughest schedule in program history during the 2006-07 season. The home opener will feature Mercyhurst, an NCAA Tournament participant last season on September 30 and October 1 at Alfond Arena. Maine will also face New Hampshire, St. Lawrence and Minnesota, all of whom advanced to the 2006 Frozen Four.

"This is by far the strongest schedule ever for the women's ice hockey program at Maine," said women's head coach Guy Perron. "Many of the games will be against teams that finished in the top ten last season, including New Hampshire who was first for most of last season. Our strength of schedule should be a good challenge for our team. In order to be the best, you have to play the best, which we are going to do this season."

Following the home opening series against Mercyhurst, Maine will travel to Minnesota for the Easton Shootout. They will face the Golden Gophers on October 6, followed by Bemidji State on October 7 in the tournament. The Black Bears open Hockey East play the following week when they host New Hampshire (October 14) and Boston College (October 15). Maine will then play at Connecticut (October 21) and at Northeastern (October 22).

Maine will begin November by hosting North Dakota for a two-game series on November 3 and 4. Providence will visit Alfond Arena (November 11 and 12) followed by a road trip to Sacred Heart (November 24 and 25). In December, Maine will have two home series, first against Northeastern (December 2 and 3) and then against St. Lawrence (December 8 and 9).

After the semester break, the Black Bears will travel to New Hampshire for a two-game series on January 12 and 13. Maine will host Vermont on January 20, followed by single game contests at Providence (January 21) and Boston University (January 27). Connecticut will visit Alfond Arena on February 3 and 4, then Maine will face Vermont on February 10 and 11 in Burlington. In the final home series of the season, Boston University will visit Orono on February 17 and 18. Maine will close out the regular season on February 22 and 23 at Boston College.
