Maine Has Sixteen Named To Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team led the conference with sixteen student-athletes named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team. Emily Stevens was one of three student-athletes to be named the conference's top Scholar-Athlete with a 4.0 GPA over the fall and spring semesters. Stevens and Morgan Janusc were also named to the Academic All-Star team at forward, representing the top GPAs by position.

For Maine, Tristan Desmet (Strathmore, Alberta), Rachel Gettings (Watervliet, N.Y.), Kelly Law (Markham, Ontario), Julie Lizotte (Sabattus, Maine), Julie Poulin (Beauceville, Quebec), Karine Senecal (Montreal, Quebec), Sheri Wauters (Kamloops, British Columbia) and Jayme Wilmann (Surrey, British Columbia) were honored for the first year. Sonia Corriveau (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec), Bridgette Laflamme (St. Augustin, Quebec), Laura Maddin (Surrey, British Columbia), Andrea Steranko (Regina, Saskatchewan), Emily Stevens (Hamilton, Ontario), Ksena Tatomir (Surry, British Columbia) and Cheryl White (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) were two-time honorees. Morgan Janusc (Dundas, Ontario) was a three-time honoree.

Following Maine's 16 honorees, Northeastern had 15 named to the All-Academic Team. Boston College (10), Connecticut (7), New Hampshire (6) and Providence (6) rounded out the sixty total honorees. To qualify for the All-Academic Team, an individual must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.0 in each of the academic periods of the hockey season. Last season, Maine led the conference with seven student-athletes honored.
