Connolly Named to 2005 Dartfish/NFHCA All-Region First Team
Nov. 14, 2005 ORONO, Maine- University of Maine field hockey back Meagan Connolly (Mahopac, N.Y.) was named to the 2005 Dartfish/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Region First Team. Kasey Spencer (Old Town, Maine) and Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) were each named to the Second Team. Connolly started all 20 games for the Black Bears this season and scored two goals and added three assists for seven points. She recorded a team-high four defensive saves on the season. Connolly, a tri-captain for the Black Bears in 2005, was recently selected to play in the 2005 NFHCA Division I North/South Senior All-Star game which will be played on November 19 at the University of Louisville. She was named the 2005 America East Defender of the Year and also named to the America East First Team. Spencer, a senior, started all 20 games for the Black Bears. She tied for the team-lead in scoring with eight goals and five assists for 21 points. She scored the game-winning goal in double overtime in Maine's 1-0 win over Georgetown. Spencer was named to the America East First Team. MacDonald, a rookie, started all 20 games for the Black Bears. She was tied with Spencer for the team-lead in scoring with eight goals and five assist for 21 points. She led Maine with four game-winning goals on the season. MacDonald, who was named America East Rookie of the Week twice this season, was named to the America East Second Team. She also earned a spot on the America East All-Rookie team. The Black Bears finished the season 13-7, 4-1 in America East play and earned a share of the America East regular season title. Maine, which played in the America East championship game for the third time in four years, fell to Boston University in the 2005 America East title game. -U-M-
