Field Hockey Falls to #15 Boston College

NEWTON, Mass.-- The University of Maine field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to 15th-ranked Boston College on Sunday afternoon in Newton, Mass. The Black Bears fall to 4-7 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 8-3 on the campaign. BC scored just 6:30 into the game when Bob Dirks scored an unassisted goal on the first shot of the game. The Eagles added to their lead at 16:19 when Caitlyn Buckanavage scored off a long hit from Dirks. BC took the 2-0 lead into halftime. The Eagles scored three goals in the second half. Katie Quaglia scored off a penalty corner at 43:57. Caitlyn Young gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead when she notched a goal from Kathleen Murphy at 46:50. Dirks capped off the scoring on a penalty stroke at 52:22. BC outshot Maine 15-1 in the game. The Eagles finished with a 6-1 edge on penalty corners. Maine goalie Maygan Cassarino (Milford, N.H.) made six saves. Julia Berkowitz and Kristine Stigas split time in the cage for the Eagles. Maine returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when it faces New Hampshire at 6 p.m. in Durham, N.H. -U-M-
