Field Hockey Shuts Out Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The University of Maine field hockey team defeated Brown 2-0 on a cold, wet Saturday afternoon in Providence, R.I. The Black Bears, who have won two straight games, improve to 2-4 on the season. Brown falls to 0-4. Maine opened the scoring just 6:44 into the game when Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored on a long shot from the right that found the far corner. For MacDonald, it was her second goal of the season. Maine added to its lead at 14:21 when Erin Reusch (Salem, N.H.) redirected a lose ball past Brown goalie Kristen Hodavance. For Reusch, it was her first goal of the season. Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) did the rest as she posted her first shutout of the season and 10th of her career. Giroux made a pair of saves and improves to 2-2 on the season. Brown held an 11-8 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in penalty corners. MacDonald led Maine with three shots in the game, while Reusch and Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa.) each had a pair of shots. The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, September 16 when they face Quinnipiac at 12 noon.
