Field Hockey Falls to Dartmouth in Overtime

HANOVER, N.H.-- The University of Maine field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Dartmouth in overtime on Friday afternoon in Hanover, N.H. Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Jackie D'Amato (Upton, Mass.) each notched goals for the Black Bears. Dartmouth opened the scoring at 27:42 when Lizzie Bildner received a pass from Stef Miller and beat Maine goalie Maygan Cassarino (Milford, N.H.). Maine evened the score when Kim MacDonald scored off an assist from rookie Brittney Cummings (Belfast, Maine) just 12 seconds later. The rapid scoring continued, as Dartmouth took the lead once again less than three minutes later when Virginia Pelsch scored an unassisted goal. Maine tied the score with less than five minutes to go in the game when D'Amato scored off an assist from Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa.) Bildner notched the game-winner 7:06 into overtime when she broke in from the top of the circle and beat Cassarino. Maine falls to 0-3 on the season, while Dartmouth improves to 1-0. Cassarino made five saves in goal for the Black Bears. Jordan Sedlacek stopped two shots from the Big Green. Maine returns to action on Saturday, September 1 when it faces Syracuse in Hanover, N.H. at 2 p.m. -U-M-
