Black Bears Face Stony Brook in Final Away Game

SCOUTING MAINE:

In their last outing, six Black Bears (18-8, 14-2 AE) registered double-figures in the 75-61 away win at Vermont. Sophomore forward Ashley Underwood (Augusta, Maine) led the way with 15 points including four three-pointers to keep Maine's 11 game win streak alive. Senior forward Monica Peterson (Wilmington, Del.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, senior captain Missy Traversi (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in 13 points, senior captain Kim Corbitt (Albany, N.Y.) added 10 points and 8 assists, junior forward Abby Schrader tallied 14 points and 9 boards and sophomore forward Bracey Barker went 2-3 from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw line for 11 points.

Maine leads the America East in scoring margin (+4.7), field goal percentage (.438), 3-point field goal percentage (.389), free-throw percentage (.752), and assist/turnover ratio (1.00). Traversi (13.1 ppg) and Barker (11.5 ppg) leads the Black Bears in scoring.

THREE-PEAT:

Maine was crowned the 2005 America East regular season champions for the third consecutive season. This feat has only been achieved on two other occasions in the America East, both times by Black Bear teams (1994-97, 1989-91).

MAINE'S GLASS CLEANER:

With 11 rebounds this past Saturday, Monica Peterson (Wilmington, Del.) moves to sixth place on Maine's all-time career rebounds list. With 794 career rebounds, Peterson passes Barb Cummings (1975-79) who occupied the sixth spot with 789 career boards. Peterson is also closing in on the 1,000 career point plateau with 968 career points.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK:

Stony Brook (8-17, 6-10 AE) went 0-2 last week, dropping games at Albany and vs. New Hampshire as it's losing streak moved to three-straight contests. The Seawolves shot just 31.2 percent (43-138) from the floor and 19.0 percent (8-42) from three-point range and were outrebounded 50-35 in the two loss week. Jessica Smith averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds last week while Mykeema Ford averaged 14.5 points and is second in scoring in the America East averaging 17.8 points per game. Stony Brook leads the America East in scoring averaging 67.3 points per game.
