Woods and Pelletier Earn America East Honors

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine swept the America East Cross Country Performer of the Week honors as Hana Pelletier and David Woods earned the honors announced on Tuesday.

Woods (York, Maine) took first place in the meet against New Hampshire on Friday afternoon on the Maine Cross Country course. He won the race by 11 seconds over Rodolfo Crispin of UNH as Woods ran the 8,000 meters in 26:14. It marked the third straight week a Black Bear has won the individual title at a meet, with all three won by different runners. Woods is the second Maine runner to earn America East Weekly honor, joining Donald Drake ( Portland, Maine).

Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) also took first place in the meet against New Hampshire, winning by 53 seconds on the 5,000 meter course over the second place finisher. She finished in 18:46 as Maine won the meet 19 to 37, taking the top three spots overall.

In the next meet, Maine will host the Murray Keatinge Invitational on October 1, with teams such as Stanford, Iowa, Dartmouth and Idaho State in the field. The men's race will begin at 11:00 am, with the women starting at 12:00 pm. Both races will start on the Athletic Fields located behind Alfond Stadium and Mahaney Diamond.
