![]() Black Bear Men Third, Women Ninth in Wildcat Invitational

Durham, N.H. - The Black Bear men's and women's cross country teams began the 2004 season Saturday morning at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by New Hampshire. The Maine men's team finished third out of eleven teams with 96 points and the women's team finished ninth out of twelve teams participating with 202 points. New Hampshire took first place overall in both races. The men were lead in the eight kilometer race by Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine), who finished seventh overall with a time of 25:32.57, only 36 seconds behind the first place finisher, Alasdair McLean-Forman of Harvard. Caron was followed by Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) with a time of 25:37.17 and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) with a time of 25:44.76. Senior Andy Caron (Topsham, Maine) finished at 26:14.16 in 22nd place overall, followed by Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) in 27:07.98. Adding points for the Black Bears were Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, NY) at 27:24.67 and David Manz (Underhill, Vt.) at 27:37.37. Also running for Maine, but not scoring points, were Tyler Alexander (Richmond, Vt.) and Patrick Guerette (Fairfield, Maine) at 27:37.73 and 28:13.10, For the Maine women, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) finished the five kilometer race seventeenth overall in 18:51.97. She was followed by Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) with a time of 19:21.92 to take 29th place. Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) and Miranda Szewc (Bangor, Maine) finished together at 19:49.22 and 19:49.39. Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) crossed the finish line at 20:23.90, followed by Brie Jellison (Ellsworth, Maine) at 20:42.56. The final point scorer for the Black Bears was Charlotte Howley (Wilton, Maine) in 21:17.00, while Jessica Hudec finished at 21:33.94.
