Cross Country Opens Season At Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The University of Maine men's cross country team took first place in the Binghamton University Invitational on Saturday, while the women's team tied for fifth place overall. Leading the way for the men was Donald Drake, who won the meet with a time of 25:29. The top finisher for the women was Heather Jovanelli, who was ninth overall in 18:58.

For the men, Drake (Portland, Maine) took first place in the 8,000 meter race. Following close behind were Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine), Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.), who finished sixth (26:01), seventh (26:06) and eighth (26:07) respectively. Also scoring for the Black Bears was David Woods (York, Maine) in 27:02. Charles Therriault (Amherst, Mass.) and Tyler Alexander (Richmond, Vt.) also ran for Maine.

In the women's race, Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) was the top Maine finisher. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) finished 17th overall in 19:57, followed by Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) in 20:35. Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) finished in 20:46 and Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) also scored for Maine with a time of 21:00. Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) and Erin Lawler (Waterville, Maine) also finished for the Black Bears.

 

 

The scores from the men's race were: Maine (51), Columbia (60), New Hampshire (79), UMBC (110), Syracuse (115), Albany (123), Binghamton (189) and Siena (220). For the women, Columbia took first with 25 points, followed by Syracuse (62), Binghamton (98), Albany (110), Colgate (118), Maine (118), UMBC (179) and Siena (228).
