Track Competes At New Englands and ECAC/IC4A Meets

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams took part in the New England Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of New Hampshire and the ECAC/IC4A Championships hosted by Princeton over the weekend. For the women at the New England Championships, Maine scored ten points to finish twenty-second overall out of 34 teams competing. The top finisher for the Black Bears was Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine), who had a throw of 47.23 meters to take fourth place in the hammer throw. In the 400 meters, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) ran a time of 59.12 to take sixth place. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.79. In the men's New England Championships, the Black Bears scored nine points to finish twenty-second out of 36 teams participating. The 4x800 meter relay team of Edward Caron (Topsham, Maine), Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.), Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) took second place overall with a time of 7:38.20. Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was eighth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:11.99. At the ECAC/IC4A Championships, Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) scored 4686 points in the the hepathlon to finish sixth overall. Souviney also ran the 100 meter hurdles, running a 14.39 in the preliminaries and a 14.50 in the seminfinals. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) ran the 800 meters in 2:13.22 for fourteenth place overall. Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine) ran the 3000 meter steeplechase and finished eigthteenth overall with a time of 9:12.87.
