Track Completes America East Championship

BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams completed the America East Championships hosted by UMBC on Sunday afternoon. The women finished sixth overall with 73 points and the men were seventh overall with 45 points. Maine was led by Clarissa Michalak with a victory in the hammer throw and Jeff Ramos with a win in the high jump. On Saturday for the women, Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) won the hammer throw with a distance of 50.22 meters. In the pole vault, Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was eighth, clearing 3.15 meters. Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.28 meters. Kayla Rubin (Sanford, Maine) was fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.12 meters. For the women on Sunday, Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) was fourth in the 100 meters in 12.20. In the 800 meters, Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was sixth in 2:15.28 and Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was seventh in 2:16.50. Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) was fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:35.79. Courtney Francis (Waltham, Maine) finished fifth in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles in 15.17 and was also fifth in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles in 1:05.46. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was second in the high jump at 1.67 meters. Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was eighth in the pole vault with a height of 3.15 meters. In the triple jump, Katie Donnelly (Westbrook, Maine) was seventh with a distance of 11.02 meters and Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) was eighth at 10.95 meters. Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.55 meters and Sarah Parsons (Hampden, Maine) was sixth in the discus at 39.02 meters. The Black Bears' 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay were fifth and the 4x800 relay was second.
For the men on Saturday, freshman Jeff Ramos (Turner, Maine) won the high jump by clearing 2.02 meters. Toby Poirer (Lewiston, Maine) was seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 53.69 meters. In the 10,000 meters, Charles Therriault (Clinton, Mass.) was sixth overall with a time of 32:33.22. Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.17. On Sunday for the men, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.82 and Daniel Voner (Dresden, Maine) was eighth in 1:55.77. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was fifth overall in 14:51.85. In the 110 meter hurdles, Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was sixth in the finals with a time of 14.98. Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) was second overall in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles finals in 54.43. In the relays, Maine was fifth in the 4x800 with a time of 7:54.14. Albany won the America East Women's Championship with 162 points. New Hampshire (156) Boston University (139.5), Vermont (110.5), Binghamton (101), Maine (73), UMBC (70), Stony Brook (31) and Hartford (14) rounded out the field. The Albany men also won the America East Championship with 268 points. New Hampshire (154), UMBC (113), Binghamton (100), Boston University (82), Stony Brook (57), Maine (45), Vermont (25) and Hartford (11) completed the field. Maine will send student-athletes to the New England Championships on May 10-12 at Dartmouth and also the ECAC/IC4A Championships on May 12-13 at Princeton.
