Men's and Women's Track Finish Seventh at America East Championships

Boston, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's track teams both finished seventh at the America East Indoor Championships hosted by Boston University over the weekend. The men's team scored 64 points, led by Mike Lansing winning the conference title in the 3000 meters. The women's team posted 48 points, led by Hana Pelletier's second place finish in the 800 meters and Kathryn Souviney placing second in the pentathlon and fourth in the 55 meter hurdles. For the women, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) took second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.34. The top point scorer for the Black Bears was Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) who was second in the pentathlon with 3545 points and also finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.25. Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) took fifth place in the long jump at 5.276 meters and fourth place in the triple jump with a 11.63 meter distance. In the 400 meters, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was fourth with a time of 57.53. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) tied for seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.53 meters. In the shot put, Maine placed three throwers, with Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) finishing fourth at 12 meters, Mary McDonagh (Newton, Mass.) sixth at 11.67 meters, and Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) eighth at 11.42 meters. Maine also picked up points in the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay. On the men's side of the meet, Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine) won the 3000 meters with a school record time of 8:17.81. He was followed in the 3000 by Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine) in second place with a time of 8:23.13. Anthony Morgan (South Berwich, Maine) was second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.64 meters. The Black Bear 4x800 meter relay team finished in second place overall. Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) took third place in the mile with a time of 4:12.01. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was fourth with a time of 14:47.85. Chris Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters. In the 500 meters, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) finished fifth with a time of 1:05.77. Sydney Harrison (Phippsburg, Maine) was sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.28 and he also took seventh place in the 55 meters with a time of 6.67. Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was seventh in the triple jump, going 13.53 meters. Ivi Nwosu (Bridgewater, Mass.) was eighth in the 55 meters at 6.75 seconds, Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) was eighth in the 800 meters at 1:56.35, and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was eighth in the 1000 meters at 2:30.51 to wrap up the Maine point scorers.
The Northeastern men finished with 147 points, one better than second-place Albany (146). The one-point victory by Northeastern marks the second-closest meet in America East Indoor Championship history. Albany's 146 points was also a record, scoring the most points by a second-place team. New Hampshire took third with 102 points, followed by University of Maryland, Baltimore Country (UMBC) (101.5), Binghamton University (93.5), Boston University (77), University of Maine (64), Stony Brook University (26), University of Hartford (16) and University of Vermont (7). The Northeastern women had quite a second day, collecting 135.5 of its 173.5 points on Saturday. Including the America East Outdoor Championship, Northeastern has won six-straight combined titles. Second-place Boston University grabbed 134 points and third-place Albany scored 107, while New Hampshire (102), Binghamton (80.5), UMBC (54), Maine (48), Vermont (46), Stony Brook (32) and Hartford (3) rounded out the women's scoring.
