Track and Field Competes at Vert et Or Invitational

SHERBROOKE, Quebec - The University of Maine track and field teams competed in the Vert et Or (Green and Gold) Invitational at the Univeristy of Sherbrooke (Quebec) on Saturday. Both men's and women's teams competed against the University of Sherbrooke and many other universities from around the province of Quebec. On the women's side, Laura Brustolon took first place in the 3000m run with a time of 10:44.09 minutes, 10 seconds in front of second place. Also claiming first place honors were Tanya Simard in the triple jump with a jump of 11.14m and Maine's 4x400m relay team with a time of 4:10.10 minutes. Taking second place finishes were: Allyson Howatt in the 60m dash with a time of 7.85 seconds, Vicki Tolton in the 300m dash running it in 41.84 seconds, Tanya Simard in the long jump with a leap of 5.21m and Tess Perry right behind Simard in the triple jump with a jump of 10.9m. On the men's side, Miles Bartlett took first place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:01.76 minutes. Jeff Ramos took first place in the high jump with a height of 2.02m. Carson Hartman and Thomas Williams finished one-two in the triple jump with jumps of 12.72m and 12.32m, respectively. The men's 4x400m relay team also took first place honors with a time of 3:25.56 minutes making it a sweep for the Black Bears with the women's team finishing first as well. Skip Edwards came in a close second in the 300m dash with a time of 35.88 seconds, just 0.57 seconds behind winner Shane Labelle of the University of Sherbrooke.
The Black Bears return to action on Jan. 26 when they travel to New York City for the Great Dane Invitational. Maine will return home on Feb. 2 for the UMaine Open. --UM-- |
