![]() Richard, Shpaizer and Burgie Honored By America East
Nov. 14, 2006 ORONO, Maine - University of Maine's Nathan Richard and Tal Shpaizer have been named America East Men's and Women's Swimming Performers of the Week, respectively. Maine's, Keith Burgie and Stony Brook's Hailey Lewandowski earn Men's and Women's America East Diving performers of the week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (November 14). Richard, a sophomore from Vergennes, Vermont, won five individual events on the weekend for the Black Bears. On Saturday against New Brunswick, he took first place in the 50-meter fly in a time of 27.21. He was also first in the 50-meter free in 24.64 and first in the 200-meter breast in 2:28.32. On Sunday against America East foe Stony Brook, Richard was first in the 100-yard breast in 58.08 and was first in the 100-yard free in 48.66. Shpaizer, a senior from Shoham, Israel, won four individual events in two meets this past weekend. Against New Brunswick, she was first in the 50-meter fly with a time of 30.68 and first in the 200-meter back in 2:25.48. In the meet on Sunday against Stony Brook, she won the 200-free with a time of 1:58.42. She was also first in the 100-back in 1:00.91. Burgie, a junior from Arundel, Maine, won both the one meter and three meter events on Sunday. He scored 242.47 points in the one meter and had 250.65 points in the three meter. Lewandowski won the one and three meter dive against Fordham on November 8 and against Maine on November 12. She scored 235.72 points in the one meter and 257.92 points in the three meter. The Maine women's team will swim on November 18 at Vermont, while both the men and women will swim on November 20 at Bowdoin.
