Maine Swimming Announces Awards

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams recently held their end of season banquet. During the banquet, the team awarded several honors, including naming Tal Shpaizer, Colleen Miller and Nathan Richard as team Most Valuable Performers for 2006-07. All three also earned MVP honors for the 2005-06 season.

Sophomore Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) set new school records in the 1650 free and 1000 free as she was third in the 1650 at the America East Championships. Miller was also third in the 500 free. Senior Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) In the ECAC Championships, she was 12th in the 100 butterfly, sixth in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 back. At the America East Championships, she was eleventh in the 100 butterfly, tenth in the 200 IM . Shpaizer and Miller were also members of the school-record setting 800 free relay team. Sophomore Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vermont) set a school record in the 200 breast and was third in the event at the America East Championships. He was also third in the 100 breast in a school-record time and fifth in the 200 IM with a school-record time.

In addition, captains for the 2007-08 season were named. Senior Kiki O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) will captain the women's team, while seniors Mike Goede (Omaha, Nebraska) and Dustin Carrier (Lewiston, Maine) will captain the men's team. Senior Keith Burgie (Arundel, Maine) will captain the divers.
