America East Names Swimming and Track All-Academic Teams

Feb. 22, 2007

BOSTON, Mass. - The America East Conference announced on Thursday the All-Academic Teams for swimming and diving and indoor track and field. The University of Maine was well represented by both teams, with four swimmers and five track and field student-athletes honored.

For indoor track, the Black Bears were led by Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) with a first place in the 500 meters. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) took first place in the 1000 meters. Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) added a second place finish in the 5000 meters. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was second in the 800 meters and Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was second in the high jump.

In swimming and diving, Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) was third in the 100 free and second in the 50 free, setting school records in both events. Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) was third in the 1650, setting a record in that event and the 100 free. She was also third in the 500 free. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) was third in the 200 back. Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vt.) finished in third place in both the 100 and 200 breast.

Each All-Academic Team has been selected based on the student-athlete's academic and athletic accomplishments. Academic achievement for consideration requires student-athletes to have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 entering the season. Athletic accomplishment standards vary between team sports and individual sports. For track and field and swimming and diving, student-athletes are required to be a top-three finisher at the conference championship meet. Team size for individual sports is determined by the number of all-conference honorees who possess the minimum academic requirement.
