Men's Soccer Falls to UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md.-- The University of Maine men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to UMBC on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. Maine falls to 2-9-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in America East play, while UMBC improves to 6-4-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. UMBC opened the scoring just 3:04 into the game when Kevin Gnatiko scored from Bryan Moffa. The Retrievers added to their lead less than four minutes later when Andrew Gillis scored from Shondell Busby and BJ Quigley at 7:01. UMBC closed out the scoring when Sean Rothe tallied from Levi Houapeu at 38:00. Maine finished the game with an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) led Maine with four shots in the game. Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) made three saves in goal. The Black Bears return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they host Hartford at 3 PM at Alumni Field in Orono.
