![]() Men's Soccer Defeated 2-1 By Binghamton
ORONO,Maine - The University of Maine men's soccer team opened up America East conference action Saturday morning with a 2-1 loss to Binghamton. The game was played in a steady rain on Alumni Field. Senior Cooper Friend (Ellsworth, Maine) scored with 18 seconds remaining in the game, but it wasn't enough for the Black Bears, who fall to a 0-9-0 record on the season. With the win, Binghamton improves to a 3-5-2 overall record.
After a scoreless first half, Binghamton got the scoring started with a goal from Bryan Arnault at 70:19, assisted by Matthew Narode. Junior Adam Chavez scored Binghamton's second goal of the game at 81:53, which was assisted by Barry Neville. Freshman Kenny Caceros (Ottawa, Ont.) earned his first collegiate point when he crossed a free kick into the box and Cooper Friend was able to put the shot into the right corner of the net for a Black Bears goal at 89:42. Junior goalkeeper Giacomo Brunino (Concord, Ont.) made nine saves, with the loss his record falls to 0-7-0 on the season. Binghamton's goalkeeper Jason Stenta made two saves and with the win evens out his record at 2-2-2. The Black Bears travel to face America East teams Hartford on Wednesday, September 27 and New Hampshire on Saturday, September 30. The team will continue on the road to play NC State on Wednesday, October 4. The Black Bears will return to home to face UMBC in America East action on Tuesday, October 7 on Alumni Field at1pm.
