Football Announces 17 Commitments

Feb. 7, 2007

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove announced on Wednesday that 17 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent or committed to attend the University and compete for the Black Bears football team beginning with the 2007-08 school year.

This year's class includes five defensive backs, three wide receivers, two offensive linemen, two running backs, one defensive lineman, one tight end, one linebacker, one quarterback and an athlete that could play several positions.

The group of incoming student-athletes also include three from the state of Maine, including Lewiston native and Fitzpatrick Award winner Jared Turcotte (RB). The other two are Portland native Chris Treister (QB) and Bangor native Robert Seccareccia (OL).

"We are very excited about the group of young men that have committed to become student-athletes here at the University of Maine," Cosgrove said. "We had a great `team' effort throughout the recuiting process. Our football staff did a great job of identifying these outstanding young men, while our current players served as hosts and ambassadors. We are very fortunate to have such great support from our President, our faculty and the students here at the University of Maine."

All National Letters of Intent signings are contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
