HEADING INTO 2005: Will be in the starting rotation for the Black Bears... had a great freshman year, especially down the stretch... is big and strong... played for Lowell of the New England Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2004.
2004: Named to the America East All-Rookie Team... was 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA... finished third in America East in ERA... allowed just 58 hits in 70.0 innings.. named America East Rookie of the Week May 10 after 7.2 innings of shutout baseball against Stony Brook, allowing just two hits and striking out six... his 11 starts tied for second on the team... fanned 63 batters on the season which ranked second on the team... threw seven innings of one-hit baseball against Iowa (3/14) but did not get a decision... struck out six batters in the game... picked up his first collegiate win when he threw seven innings and allowed just one hit while striking out eight batters in Maine's 8-3 win over Niagara (3/21).
BEFORE UMAINE: Earned Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic Honors... named Catholic Conference All-Star in both 2002 and 2003... earned Most Valuable Player honors his senior season... named the Massachusetts Division I State Tournament MVP honors after leading Malden Catholic to the 2003 Massachusetts Division I State Championship... two-time captain for head coach Steve Freker... pitched 82 innings his senior season with 128 strikeouts and a 0.13 ERA... born March 7, 1985... son of Mary Ann and Steven Richard... a business major.
