Loyola Clinches Second Place With Away Win Over Wright State, 2-0
Oct. 28, 2007 Fairborn, Ohio - Cynthia Morote-Ariza's two second-half penalties accounted for all the scoring as Loyola locked up the second seed in the upcoming Horizon League tournament with a 2-0 win at Wright State this afternoon in Dayton, Ohio. The Ramblers close out the regular season with a 12-8 (7-1 Horizon) record while the Raiders, who enter tournament play as the No. 3 seed, slip to 12-5-1 (5-2-1). Loyola had several chances early on, as Morote-Ariza and Heather Lau each put multiple shots on goal in the opening half-hour. After a scoreless first half, Morote-Ariza was taken down and stepped up to convert the penalty to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. She closed the scoring in identical fashion in the 76th minute, again brought down in the box and blasting in her own spot kick for her 15th goal of the season. The goals came on Loyola's first two PKs of the season. The Ramblers will host a Horizon League Quarterfinal match next Saturday (Nov. 3) against an opponent to be determined.
