Cynthia Morote-Ariza's 10th goal of the season was not enough as a late goal gave Milwaukee a 2-1 win

Cynthia Morote-Ariza Sets Single-Season Goals Record But Late Goal Sinks Loyola At Milwaukee, 2-1

Oct. 16, 2007

Final Stats

Milwaukee, Wis. - Sophomore forward Cynthia Morote-Ariza set a single-season record with her 10th goal of the season but a Pam Shipway goal in the 70th minute pushed Milwaukee to a 2-1 win over the Ramblers this evening in a battle of two of the Horizon League's top teams at Englemann Field in Milwaukee, Wis. Loyola drops to 9-7 (4-1 Horizon) while the Panthers improve to 9-3-3 (5-0-1).

In an even first half, it was Milwaukee that got on the board just before intermission, as Sarah Teegarden sent a blast from 30 yard into the back of the net in the 43rd minute. However, Morote-Ariza would find the equalizer for the Ramblers just past the hour mark, beating the Milwaukee keeper to the far post in the 63rd minute for her 10th goal of the season, a marker which breaks the Loyola single-season record for goals that she shared with Melissa Eckerle. With Milwaukee already having a draw on their conference record, the Panthers needed a win from this match and it was Pam Shipway that got it for them, fending off a pair of Loyola defenders to finish from six yards in the 71st minute that gave UWM the lead for good.

The teams battled tooth and nail all night, with Milwaukee holding a slight 17-13 edge in shots. However, Panther keeper Erin Kane was forced into six saves while Colleen Dougherty and the Ramblers were forced into just three for the night.

Loyola looks to rebound on Friday evening when it battles Detroit on Senior Night in a 5 p.m. start at Loyola Soccer Park. Loyola's nine seniors will be honored in a pre-match ceremony.
