Alexia Murray and the Ramblers return home on Friday night to battle Northern Illinois

Northwestern Blitz Sinks Loyola, 3-0

Sept. 12, 2007

Final Stats

Evanston, Ill. - Host Northwestern scored three goals in a 15-minute stretch that spanned both halves in a 3-0 win over Loyola this afternoon at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. The Ramblers slump to 1-4 with the loss while Northwestern improves to 4-1 with the win.

Loyola took it to the Wildcats in the early going, looking dangerous in the attacking third of the field. Good work from Katie Heidenreich earned LU a pair of corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes and the trio of Heidenreich, Cynthia Morote-Ariza and Alexia Murray were able to keep the pressure on. Murray nearly opened the scoring on 19 minutes, latching onto a loose ball in the ball only to be turned away by a sprawling Northwestern keeper. Although Northwestern began to gain a majority of possession, the Ramblers were dangerous against the run of play. However, Northwestern finally unlocked the Loyola defense in the 32nd minute, as Shannon Schneeman met Jennifer Baumann's far-post cross and nodded the ball past LU keeper Lauren Sommer. Schneeman was not done, however, and doubled Northwestern's lead in the 42nd minute to make it a 2-0 game at halftime.

The intermission did not slow the NU attack and Kelsey Hans added the third just 61 seconds into the second half, becoming the Wildcats' all-time leading scorer with the tally. Loyola tried to comeback, as Morote-Ariza came close and, after a nice build-up, Nikki Staton was denied by the keeper.

Loyola's busy week continues on Friday night when the Ramblers play host to Northern Illinois at 7 p.m.
