Maggie McCloskey Named Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team

Oct. 11, 2007

CHICAGO - Sophomore guard Maggie McCloskey was named to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team as the results of the preseason poll of conference head coaches, sports information directors and selected media members were announced this afternoon by the Horizon League office. Milwaukee's Traci Edwards was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year while her Panthers were chosen as league favorites.

McCloskey put together one of the best freshman seasons in Loyola history last year, averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 assists per game in 28 appearances en route to earning Horizon League All-Newcomer Team distinction. In addition, she knocked down a team-high 73 three-point field goals, a Loyola freshman record and a figure that ranks second on LU's single-season chart. McCloskey tied Loyola's school record with eight treys at Green Bay and hit at least one three-pointer in 25 of Loyola's 28 games, including each of its last 19 outings. Joining McCloskey on the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team are Heather Karner (Youngstown State), Susan Lester (Butler), Whitney Lewis (Wright State) and Jessie Miller (UIC).

Edwards shares the Preseason All-Horizon League First Team with Lade Akande (Butler), Kailey Klein (Cleveland State), Joyce Massey (Detroit) and Rachel Porath (Green Bay).

Loyola returns three starters, all sophomores, and eight letterwinners from last year's squad. The Ramblers open the 2007-08 season on Nov. 10 when they host Robert Morris at the Gentile Center.
