Loyola Names Brent Brown Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

July 20, 2007

CHICAGO - The Loyola University women's basketball team and head coach Shannon Reidy have announced the hiring of Brent Brown as an assistant coach this afternoon. Brown, who will serve as the Ramblers' recruiting coordinator in addition to scouting and player development duties, completes the coaching staff for the 2007-08 season.

"The experience that Brent brings to Loyola will pay dividends immediately," said Reidy. "As a former head coach at the high school level with nine years of experience as a college assistant, he has excellent X and O knowledge in addition to experience in game preparation. Coach Brown has cultivated relationships in several of our surrounding states, which will be a major boost in recruiting, and has a tremendous reputation among coaches in the area. It was important to me to hire an assistant coach whose experience and drive would not only positively affect the coaching staff and current players but also elevate the level of our program within the Horizon League."

Brown makes the move to Chicago after three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan, where he helped mentor All-Mid-American Conference forward Ann Skufca in addition to raising the level of talent in the program through solid recruiting classes. Prior to his work at CMU, Brown served as an assistant coach at both IUPUI (2002-04) and Ferris State (1999-2002), where he has worked with four first team all-conference players, two conference Player of the Year winners and a pair of Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Year honorees. In addition to earning accolades for their work on the floor, Brown's charges have also excelled in the classroom, where he has aided two first team academic all-americans. Before making the jump into collegiate athletics, Brown started his coaching career in 1991 with a seven-year term at Iowa City High School in Iowa City, Iowa, taking over the reins as head coach in 1994.

A 1989 graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, Brown possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Simpson and earned his Master's Degree in athletic administration from the University of Iowa in 1994.
