Loyola Drops Exhibition Opener to Odyssey, 93-56

Nov. 1, 2005

Box Score

CHICAGO - Team Odyssey hit its first four three-pointers of the game, opened up a sizeable early lead and cruised to a 93-56 win over Loyola in the Ramblers' exhibition opener tonight at the Gentile Center.

Danielle Lonie opened the scoring before the guests ran off the next 13 points. Jenna Real got free inside to cut it to 10 (22-12) at the 11:35 mark and Real connected again minutes later to slice the deficit to 27-16 with 9:31 on the clock. Turnovers plagued the Ramblers the rest of the way as Odyssey closed the half on a 13-2 spurt to take a 50-21 lead into intermission. Loyola struggled in its first half with a new offensive system, hitting just 8-of-32 (.250) from the floor and turning the ball over 20 times. Senior Mandy Mennella, who sat out the first half, played 15 minutes in the second period and scored nine points, her first action since suffering a knee injury and missing the final 10 games of the 2004-05 season.

The Ramblers struggled with their shooting eyes from all spots on the floor, finishing the game shooting .328 from the floor and .522 (12-of-23) from the foul line.

Real lead the way with 14 points on 6-of-12 from the floor. Lonie joined her in double figures, finishing with 10 points and eight boards, while freshman Jana Lucas pitched in with seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
