No. 10 Loyola Sweeps Carthage, 3-0

Kenosha, Wis. (March 1, 2007) - The No. 10 Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match after defeating Carthage College, 3-0, on Thursday in Kenosha, Wis.

Loyola extended its season-high win streak to eight matches and improved to13-3 overall and remain 4-2 in MIVA Shondell/Dunlap Division play. Carthage dropped to 12-6 overall but are 4-0 in MIVA Coleman Division play.

Loyola out-hit Carthage .444 to .173 and converted 47 kills on only 81 attempts. Senior setter Brian Guntli set up the Rambler attack with a match-high 38 assists and also took match-high honors with four blocks. Middle blocker Nick Lamoureux registered a season-high .727 hitting percentage, accumulating nine kills on 11 attempts.

Rambler opposite hitter Ian Anderson had a match-high 16 kills and added three digs and two blocks. Middle blocker James Grunst had his third straight double-figure-kill performance with 10 and also added one service ace, one dig and one block.

LU outblocked Carthage 8.5 to 5 in the match. Lamoureux and Joe Guntli had three blocks apiece were second on the team, following Brian Guntli's four. In the back row, Zach Bailey had his third straight double-figure dig outing with a match-high 10. The Glendale, Wis. native has tied or led Loyola in digs in 11 of 16 matches this season.

The Red Men were led on the attack by Rob Koehler and Juri Veldre, who had 10 kills apiece. Setter Matt Ulmer totaled 32 assists and Ryan Baumgartner had a team-high eight digs. Ulmer and Koehler tied for team-high honors in blocks, with two each.

The Ramblers travel to Romeoville, Ill. to continue non-conference action against New Jersey Tech at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Neil Carey Arena.
