Brian Byrne recorded four saves in a 1-0 ovetime loss to UIC on Saturday night

Loyola Falls to UIC, 1-0, in Overtime

Nov. 3, 2007

Final Stats

The visiting Flames of UIC scored the only goal of the match three minutes into overtime to defeat Loyola 1-0 on Saturday night at Loyola Soccer Park. With the loss the Ramblers fall to 10-4-4 overall and 5-1- 2 in Horizon League action, as the Flames improve to 8-5-5 overall and 4-1-3 in the League.

Loyola started out aggressive, outshooting its opponents 10-2 in the first half, but could not capitalize. Missed opportunities and three saves by UIC keeper Jovan Bubonja kept the Ramblers scoreless for the first time since October 5, when they played to a scoreless draw at Detroit.

Sophomore Michael Ferguson led the Ramblers offensively taking four shots, three of which were on goal.

UIC's Baggio Husidic notched the overtime match-winner at the 93-minute mark giving the Ramblers their first loss since September 26. Husidic blasted a pass from the right side past Loyola keeper Brian Byrne. Byrne has allowed only 13 goals this season and owns a stingy 0.69 goals against average.

With the win, UIC claims the No. 3 seed for the Horizon League Championship. As the No. 1 seed, Loyola will host the Horizon League Semifinals and Championship game at Loyola Soccer Park on November 16 and 18, respectively.
