Men's Soccer Shuts Out Oral Roberts, 1-0
Sept. 9, 2007 Sophomore midfielder, Eric Gehrig's goal in the first period of the Loyola men's soccer match against Oral Roberts, lifted the Ramblers over the Golden Eagles on Sunday morning at the UMKC Tournament by a score of 1-0. With the victory, LUC improves to 2-2-0 on the season, while Oral Roberts falls to 1-3-0. The lone goal of the match came within the first eight and a half minutes of action, when Gehrig blasted his second goal of the season into the net from the top left side. Sophomore Michael Ferguson picked up the assist. The Golden Eagles' Carlos Pinto attempted to break the shutout on numerous occasions, recording a team-leading three shots and two shots on goal, but, Loyola keeper Brian Byrne did not allow anything to get by him. The junior from Arlington Heights, Ill. recorded four saves in the shutout victory. Last season, the Ramblers' defense equaled a school record10 shutouts on the season. LUC recorded nine of their ten shots in the first period, while Oral Roberts registered a total of seven. The Ramblers return to Loyola Soccer Park on Wednesday, September 12, when they take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. |
