Men's Soccer Falls to UMKC, 3-1
Sept. 7, 2007
The Loyola men's soccer team lost the first game of the UMKC Tournament to the Kangaroos, 3-1 on Friday night. With the loss, the Ramblers fall to 1-2-0, while UMKC improves to 3-0-0 on the season. The Kangaroos got on the board first, when a penalty kick from sophomore Bryan Perez found its way past Loyola keeper Brian Byrne in the first half. Sophomore Michael Ferguson answered back with the Ramblers' only goal of the night, when he blasted a goal into the net from the right wing, evening the score at one. Ferguson has tallied four goals on the season, topping the Rambler offense. Just five minutes into the second half, the Kangaroos struck again. Junior midfielder Garret Guthrie notched his first goal of the season off the corner from teammate John Bayron Sosa, putting UMKC back in front by one. Shortly after Guthrie's goal, junior Miguel Rodrigues collected his own rebound and drilled a shot into the backstop to give the Kangaroos a 3-1 advantage over the Ramblers. Loyola had many opportunities to score throughout the match. The Ramblers out shot the Kangaroos 9-6 in the first period, and totaled 15 shots to UMKC's 16. LUC looks to bounce back in tournament action on Sunday, September 9, when they take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in their final game at the UMKC Tournament. The match is slated for 11:30 a.m. |
