Gouard Named Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

2/14/2005

DaJuan Gouard scored 19 points versus UW-Green Bay in his final home game as a Rambler

CHICAGO (February 14, 2005) – Loyola University Chicago senior guard DaJuan Gouard has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week it was announced this morning by the conference office. In a pair of contests last week against the top two teams in the Horizon League, Gouard averaged 20.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 5.0 apg, while shooting .500 (13 for 26) from the field.

The senior captain tossed in a team-high 22 points and added six rebounds and five assists in a 74-67 loss to league-leading UW-Milwaukee on Feb. 10. In his final regular-season home game as a Rambler, Gouard tallied 19 points and chipped in five assists and a pair of rebounds, hitting 6 of 10 shots from the field, including 3 of 5 from long range, to help Loyola to an 80-64 victory over UW-Green Bay on Feb. 12.

Since returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for seven games, Gouard has helped Loyola to a 5-4 record, scoring in double figures in each contest. Over his last four games, Gouard is contributing 18.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.5 apg and 1.5 spg, while hitting .522 (24 for 46) of his shots from the field, including .474 (9 for 19) from three-point territory.

Loyola (8-16, 6-8 Horizon), which has won two of its last three games, returns to action on Feb. 17 when it travels to crosstown rival Illinois-Chicago.
