INDIANAPOLIS (February 3, 2005) - A hot-shooting Butler (9-11, 4-6 Horizon) squad dealt Loyola University Chicago (6-15, 4-7 Horizon) a 79-51 loss tonight at Hinkle Fieldhouse as the Ramblers dropped their 16th straight game at the storied arena. The Bulldogs hit 62 percent (13 for 21) of their shots from beyond the arc as Avery Sheets was a perfect 7 for 7. Loyola fell behind 30-20 in the first half before putting together a 7-1 run to close the gap to 31-27 with 4:07 left. With a chance to cut into the lead even further, the Ramblers missed a lay-up and Butler scored the next five points to open up a 36-27 lead. Butler took a 37-31 advantage into the break. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach by scoring the first nine points of the second half to build up a 46-31 edge with 17:30 remaining. From that point forward, the Ramblers got no closer than 11 points, at 46-35. DaJuan Gouard scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive contest by pouring in a team-high 17 points. Blake Schilb ran his string of consecutive games with double-digit points to 15, by tossing in 11, while Tyrelle Blair recorded his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 boards. Sheets scored a game-high 26 points to pace the Bulldogs. Loyola looks to rebound when it travels to Wright State on Feb. 5. Game time is slated for noon Central. |
