Nine Loyola Student-Athletes Selected to Winter All-Academic Teams

CHICAGO (April 27, 2005) - The Horizon League revealed its Winter Academic All-League teams today. The League honored 78 student-athletes for their work in the classroom, with Loyola having nine student-athletes recognized, including two returning members from 2003-2004.
Overall, 78 student-athletes, including 27 returnees from the 2003-04 squad, were honored: women’s swimming and diving (17), men’s swimming and diving (17), women’s indoor track and field (17), men’s indoor track and field (17), women’s basketball (5), and men’s basketball (5).
The winter academic All-Horizon League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative grade-point aver-age (G.P.A.) of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a League-sponsored sport.
For the Ramblers, seven men and two women from the track and field teams were selected. Chad Tredway and Sean Conroy are repeat selections.
Tredway clinched first place (22.55) at the Lewis Invitational and took third at the Notre Dame Opener in the 200m dash over the winter. Conroy had a first-place finish at the Horizon League Indoor Championships in the one mile run and placed himself ninth on the Ramblers all-time list in the 3,000m steeplechase with a mark of 9:15.11 at the Stanford Invitational
In field events over the winter quarter, Ryan Ferros took first in the long jump at the Notre Dame Opener while Laith Hoffarth finished in first in the high jump at the Lewis Invitational (6-10.00) and the Carthage College Open.
Andrew McQuillan grabbed second place at the UW-Milwaukee Triagular in the one mile run (4:18.22) as teammate Andrew Sbertoli put himself ninth on Loyola’s all-time list in the 5,000m with his mark of 14:45.84 at the Iowa State Classic.
On the women’s side, Marcia Faustin took the women’s high jump crown for a second year in a row at the Horizon League Indoor Championships with a mark of 5’06.50" and won the high jump at the UW-Milwaukee Triangular, Carthage College Open and Lewis Invitational.
Maureeca Lambert was the champion of the 3,000m run clocking in at 9:56.91 at the Horizon League Indoor Championships and she shattered the 3,000m run school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational with a mark of 9:38.21, improving her personal best by 12 seconds at the same time.
