Track Teams Set 13 New Personal Bests

4/19/2005

Teams traveled to four different meets over the weekend

Chicago, Ill. (April 19, 2005) – The men’s and women’s track team participated in four different meets this weekend, with many new personal bests set on both sides.

On the men’s side Gary Gentry set a new personal best in the 200m with a mark of 22.74 at the Indy Relays. Joining Gentry at the relays was Joe Mahalick who set a new personal record in the 800m run (1:53.23). Sean Conroy put himself seventh all-time in the Loyola record books at the Mt. SAC Relays where he clocked in at 9:08.48 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Conroy then ran the 1,500m (3:49.36) at the Long Beach State Invitational, landing seventh again in the records for the Ramblers. Rounding out the men’s performances was Brent Cunningham at the Pomona Pitzer Invite as he clocked in at 3:54.59 in the 1,500m run.

At the Mt. SAC relays Andrew McQuillan and Andy Sbertoli finished the 10,000m run in 29:52.44 (4th all-time) and 30:24.40 (10th all-time) respectively. Eduardo Borjon and Shawn Lucas were at the Long Beach State Invitational with Borjon clocking in at 3:53.80 in the 1,500m run and Lucas with a mark of 1:54.80 in the 800m run.

"McQuillan and Conroy had big weekends for Loyola on the men's side as Conroy made the next step to hitting the regional standard in both the steeple and 1500m. McQuillan ran an outstanding 10k at Mt. Sac and I am extremely proud of how he ran the race," noted head coach Marc Burns.

For the women, Sara Demars finished the 400m in 64.92 and Michelle Kubielewicz clocked in at 6:05.50 (1,500m run) at the Indy Relays. Anna Hinterschied landed herself 10th all-time at Loyola in both the 1,500m run (4:39.71) at the Mt. SAC Relays and in the 800m run (2:15.71) at the Long Beach State Invitational.

Also at the Mt. SAC relays was Rebecca Long who set a mark of 2:10.94 in the 800m to land her 2nd all-time. "Rebecca keeps getting closer to the regional standard. She is knocking on the door of sub 2:10 and our school record," said Burns.

Sara Covert and Rachel Hansen ran at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational, with Covert in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:24.21, 3rd all-time) and Hansen in the 1500m run (4:46.24).

"This was a great weekend for the Ramblers. We had amazing weather at all of the meets and we took advantage of it. There are just four weeks remaining until the Horizon League meet and we need to continue to build momentum over the coming weeks and should be back to full strength by this weekend at the Central Collegiate Championships. We are very excited about where we stand at this point in the season."

The teams will next travel to the Central Collegiate Championships this weekend.
