Former Loyola Track Standout to Compete at Norwich Union International

Jan. 8, 2008

Former Loyola University Chicago track and field standout, Colleen (Bolin) Newhart will represent the United States at the 2008 Norwich Union International which will be held January 26 in Glasgow, Scotland. As a representative of the U.S. track and field team, Newhart will compete in the indoor 1,500m race. She earned the qualification after her impressive performance last summer at the USATF National Championship meet in Indianapolis in which she posted a time of 4:29.26 in the 1,500m race.

The Norwich Union International features one athlete in each event from five nations: the United States, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and a Commonwealth Select team. It is a unique country versus country format which features athletes from the different nations battling against each other to earn points toward their team's overall match total.

A 2003 graduate of Loyola, Newhart won the Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award which is presented annually to the student-athlete who best represents the ideals of Loyola and the women's running programs of academics, athletics and faith. As a student-athlete, Newhart recorded a personal-best time of 4:33.74 in the 1,500m and ranks second on Loyola's all-time chart in the indoor 1,000m (2:54.35) and indoor mile (4:54.36).
