Loyola Posts A Pair of School-Record Times At Drake Relays

CHICAGO - The LU men's and women's teams both set school records in the 4x100 relay preliminary rounds. Senior Tony Mask (Portland, Ore.) along with sophomores Edmund Blankson (Glen Carbon, Ill.), Jimel Denham (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) and Gary Gentry (Rockton, Ill.) posted a time of 41.88, shattering the 31-year previous school-best mark of 42.00. The team of senior Inshirah Grimes (Shaker Heights, Ohio), junior Marcia Faustin (Orland Park, Ill.), sophomore Christina James (Rockford, Ill.) and freshman Rebecca Taylor (Brown Deer, Wis.) bettering the old school-mark of 49.30 set in 1995 with a time of 49.12.

Senior Sean Conroy (Cork, Ireland) and junior Marcia Faustin (Orland Park, Ill.) posted top-10 individual finishes to pace the Maroon and Gold. Conroy finished in a tie for seventh place with Northern Iowa's Dylan Davis in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:51.46. Faustin earned an eighth-place tie with UNI's Crystal Hanson in the women's high jump thanks to a leap of 5-07, which ties her best effort in the outdoor season. Junior Amanda Domich (Algonquin, Ill.) was the final LU individual competing at Drake as she placed 12th in the women's 10,000m with a time of 37:57.96.

The men's distance medley relay team of seniors Shawn Lucas (Elgin, Ill.) and Chris Morris (McHenry, Ill.), junior Brent Cunningham (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Blankson finished ninth with a time of 10:00.24. In the 1600 sprint medley relay, Denham, Gentry and sophomore Joe Mahalick (Joliet, Ill.) teamed with freshman Marty Pugliese (Middleton, Conn.) to record a season-best time of 3:33.27, good for a 15th-place showing. Conroy, Lucas and Morris later joined freshman Ryan Kuphall (LaGrange, Ill.) in the 4x1600m relay to finish 12th at a time of 16:56.37.

On the women's side, the 4x1600m relay team of senior Anna Hinterschied (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), sophomore Rachel Hansen (Omaha, Neb.), and freshmen Jessie Morgenthal (Wheeling, Ill.) and Ashley Raymond (Wheaton, Ill.) placed 11th with a time of 21:21.64. Grimes, James and Taylor later teamed with freshmen Pam Staton (Ingleside, Ill.) to finish 23rd in the 1600 sprint medley relay at a time of 4:17.35.

The Ramblers are back in action on Saturday, May 6 at the Butler Twilight in their final meet of the regular season.
